Robert's Interview with Berliner Morgenpost

BERLINER Morgenpost: you are afraid of photographers, Mr. Pattinson?

A young man who looks a little discouraged, that is the first impression one gets during this interview with Robert Pattinson. There is no reason for a young 29-year-old feel that way, though, perhaps because after the huge success of the Twilight series, he managed to establish himself as a serious actor. In LIFE, it is seen as the photographer who took the photos of the legendary James Dean.

BM: You're a good photographer?

Robert: Half decent, though I only have gotten it during the movie. I won the same camera that had Dennis Stock. The quality of my photo depends on the place and light. When I was filming Queen of the Desert with Werner Herzog in Morocco, I took great pictures easily, but when I came back to London the photos came out too dark.

BM: Generally it is what is photographed all the time. How do you handle that?

Robert: I'm suffering from it right now. When Twilight first came out, I dealt with this in a very offensive manner. That means I was not able to present myself in a certain way, and while you can have control is good. But it became too much and slipped out of my control. I had the feeling that something was taken from me with photographers I got scared and I closed. I am currently in phase 'Please do not take pictures. "

BM: What do you do when you go out and photographers are waiting for you?

Robert: I get scared.

BM: Really?

Robert:. Do I understand that I can not let them make me crazy. I am tired of putting an outfit or wear a cap.

BM: Have you had a close relationship with a photographer as James Dean did?

Robert: Not with a photographer, but when the first Twilight movie came out there were some journalists I have a great relationship and also leaves with them. There was a writer EW who wrote a really cool story about me, because we got along very well. We went to a bar and we were drunk.

BM: We must do it now?

Robert: No, I'll never do it again, because now people kind of know me through the many interviews I did and some journalists -without ofender- you want to try to make me get to the point where I say something really awful.

BM: You are able to just go to a bar now?

Robert: This is slowly getting to the point where I can. It depends on how the public reacts. With a movie like Twilight, there was a lot of pressure and nobody cared for any individual nuances. There was some crazy reactions to certain things that I said and everyone would be angry about trifles, especially when the first movie came out. So many people were crazy, I thought I would be killed.

BM: Do not overdo it now.

Robert: It is true. When the first trailer was shown, I had an experience like the scene in Jurassic Park where the protagonists are hunted by birds of prey. After an exhibition in Mexico we all got in a car, but the locks were not working and people were pushing to get in the car. My manager had to push them out and then were followed for 400 people. The driver took a wrong turn and ended up in a parking lot with people still behind us. We arrived at the exit, but we had to pay the fee and none of us had enough money and security would not let us go. We pay the fee.

BM: Your life not only looks like Jurassic Park, but a novel, especially his former relationship with his co-star Kristen Stewart. How do you see it?

Robert: It was very strange. I always try not to talk about people things, but it makes no difference, because people just invent things. I became part of the story that other people have invented and I could not do anything about it. There was a time I did not make official pictures, because I thought, no new pictures, no new stories. But I was wrong, people just take the old photos.

BM: Even the fan hysteria died a little, you can relate to them?

Robert: There was a time I was obsessed with Van Morrison, but not insanely so. My situation is essential, as happened accidentally. I just got into it. I never had a problem with my fans and I always saw them as individuals and they do not scream as individuals. It is the mass mentality that I find bizarre. In fact, the media and photographers are the problem because they are waiting for the moment I will make a mistake or have a bad experience. The fans want me to win and I have no problem with that.

BM: Do you enjoy the applause around you?

Robert: Absolutely not. Sometimes people around me do not want me to tell the truth, just because they think I'm going to get mad. I am treated like a little baby bird that needs to be careful. I do not like baba eggs around me, it's annoying. I have people around me now that contradict me and to my agent tells me sometimes 'shut up, you're a beast.'

BM: Can you find this crazy world?

Robert: I have my ways. The people around me help me with this. My friends, my family are my solid base and from there I've only surfed for a few years. I never imagined that there would be something that would interest me, but the sea has a positive effect on me, which I love. When I'm away, I can not breathe.

BM: Photographer Dennis subordinates his family for his career. Can you understand this attitude?

Robert: To be honest I do not think that attitude is really cool. Your child is a burden to him. When I heard about the project, I was not interested in her relationship with James Dean first. I found it interesting that he was a person who just did not like his son. He is an example for someone who did not find happiness with this attitude. He was a tragic figure. With all his interviews, it becomes clear that he has learned nothing. Even in the 80s he still complained only be famous for his pictures of James Dean.

BM: What about you? What if it only is known for playing vampire Edward?

Robert: So what? As long as I have the chance to do this for a living, I am happy. Be famous only stifles growth. You talk to people about the same things all the time is hard to find people outside this bubble. As I said before I consciously look for people who have a different perspective from mine and talk openly about it - not just trivial nonsense. Since Twilight I only made films that interest me and I play roles that have not done before and I always had the roles I wanted. I just hope this streak continues.
